HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1717 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/12/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/13/96 Daily Status Report as of 257/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD 6925 (FOS Observations of Solar Analog Standards) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make absolute = spectrophotmetry observations of the solar analog star P041-Cali in the = spectral range of 2200 A0 to 8500 A0. The objective is to provide the = primary standards for the absolute calibration of the NICMOS. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6802 (Cosmology With the Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with = the prime science observations as part of the Medium Deep Sky Survey. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6344 (Low - Mass Binaries in the Hyades - Complet= ing the Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary = star RHY260 (M-Class Dwarf Stars) which is located in the Hyades Cluster. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.4 Completed FGS 6764 (Detection and Mass Determination of Low Mass = Companions) The FGS were used in both the TRANS and POS modes to make = astrometric measurements of nearby, dwarf, M class star GL791 in order to = measure the mass of its possible low mass companion. The intent is to = improve the mass-luminosity relation for the cool end of the main = sequence. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.5 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive = Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.6 Completed FOS/BL/GHRS/1 6448 (Ultraviolet Mapping of the Unique = Polar HU-Aqr) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) and the High Resolution = Spectrograph (Side One) were both used to make ultraviolet spectrographic = observations of the unique, polar, eclipsing, magnetic, cataclysmic, star = HU-Aqr. Observations will be made during all phases of the binary = system. The observations were executed as scheduled and no anomalies = were noted. 1.7 Completed Two sets of WF/PC-2 6610 (WF/PC-2 Lyman-Alpha Imaging of = Galaxy cluster at Z =3D 2.4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of an apparent blank = field of view hoping to make Lyman-Alpha observations of faint galaxies = located at a distance of Z =3D 2.4. Earlier exposures revealed many = compact Lyman-Alpha emitters at this distance. These observations were = executed in parallel with the prime science observations. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed Two sets of WF/PC-2 6909 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: = Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the bright earth to = obtain streak flats which are used to construct high quality flat fields = for the WF/PC-2 filter set. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed FOS/RD 6577 (An Expanded Survey for Study of the = Lyman-Alpha Line and QSO Mg II Absorption) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red side) was used to make = observations of the UM675 in order to make a survey of the Lyman-Alpha = line and the 68 Mg II absorption line system. At 256/1713Z during AOS = after a ZOE the guide star acquisition was in fine lock backup on FGS #1 = only. The Take-Data-Flag was up and no error were indicated. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no other anomalies were = reported. 1.10 Completed GHRS/2 6541 (Interstellar Cadmium: Probing Galactic = Chemical Evolution) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the O/B class star HD57061 HD57061 in = order to probe interstellar Cadmium and study the galactic chemical = evolution. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.11 Completed FGS 6873 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members, Cycle 6 = - High) The FGSs were used to make parallax astrometric observations of = the star PCEN383 and several other reference stars within the Hyades star = cluster. When the data from this cycle is combined with previuosly = obtained data, the population 1 zero age main sequence will be better = defined. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were reported. 1.12 Completed FGS 6874 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members, Cycle 6 = - High) The FGSs were used to make parallax astrometric observations of = the star VA645 and several other reference stars within the Hyades star = cluster, to better define the Population 1 zero age main sequence. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 13 Successful : 13 2.3 Operations Notes: Real-time operations were returned to the MOR at 256/2245Z = following the SM-2 Internal Simulation #10. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
