HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1721 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/18/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/19/96 Daily Status Report as of 263/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/1 6414 (Doppler Mapping of Chromospheric and = Transition Region UV Emission Lines) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = ultraviolet Spectrographic observations of the variable star BW-Drako in = order to do doppler mapping of its chormospheric and transitional = emission line region. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6903 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: = Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several calibration bias = observations, internal flats, K-Spot images and dark calibration images = which are all part of a Cycle 6 decontamination procedure. No science = was interleaved with the dark exposures. The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed FOS/RD 6914 (FOS Cycle 6: Location of Spectra and = Wavelength Calibration - Red Side) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make both a = TALED and a wavelength calibration image. All observations were made = using internal light sources. This proposal will be executed a total of = 12 time during cycle 6 (i.e., once per month). The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOS/BL 6741 (Synoptic Monitoring of Seasonal Phenomena = on Mars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used in the rapid = mode to make spectrographic observations of the surface and = meteorological changes on the planet Mars in order to do synoptic = monitoring of its seasonal phenomena. Special attention will be given to = the Ares Valley region, which is intended as a landing site for the Mars = Pathfinder mission. The observations were completed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.5 Completed GHRS/2 6078 (The Wind Momentum-Luminosity Relationship = for SMC A and B Supergiants.) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the O/B class stars AV315 and AV136 which = are located in the Small Magellanic Cloud in order to measure the wind = momentum/luminosity relationship in these low metallicity stars. This = relationship is used to determine the distance to galaxies. The = observations were completed as planned and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant problems reported. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
