HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1725 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/24/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/25/96 Daily Status Report as of 269/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/1 6544 (Dwarf Novae in Quiescence) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = moderate resolution, high signal-to-noise ratio spectrographic = observations of the dwarf, quiescent nova WX-Hyi. The intent is to study = the accretion disk in the system in order to determine if x-ray = photoionization of the disk produces the ultraviolet lines and the = underlying continuum. The observations were completed as planned and no = problems were reported. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive = Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6905 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal calibrations = observations including biases and internal flats as part of a Cycle 6 = calibrations procedure. A variety of internal exposures are run weekly = to verify and monitor the health of the camera. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOS/RD 6589 (Associated Absorption Lines in QSOs) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the QSO PKS0119-04 in order to study its = associated absorption lines. The absorption lines (ZA) and the emission = lines (ZE) give similar redshifts, that is ZA~ZE. Recent studies have = suggested that the metallicity in its environment is higher than the = solar value. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6802 (Cosmology With the Medium Deep = Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with = the prime science observations as part of the Medium Deep Sky Survey. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.6 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6909 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: = Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the bright Earth to = obtain streak flats which are used to construct high quality flat fields = for the WF/PC-2 filter set. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the = Ultraluminous IRAS Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxies QDOTULIR00 and CL-UILR001. These data will = be searched for multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and = for starburst regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges of Spiral = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxy NGC-1345 in order to study its central bulge. The aim is = to investigate the core properties, correlation's with global galactic = properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or = miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOC/96 6350 (FOC spectroscopy of BALQSOs) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make ultraviolet = spectrographic images of BALQSO 0019+0107 which is known to show broad = emission lines from abundant ions. This will help us improve our = knowledge of these BAL class objects. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 6364 (Snapshot Survey of Proto-Planetary = Nebulae and AGB Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot survey observations of p= rotoplanetary nebular system IRAS20462 to study its circumstellar = envelope. The purpose is to discern the evolutionary sequence that = produces axially-symmetric planetary nebulae. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed FOS/RD 6916 (FOS/Cycle 6:Photometric Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = ultraviolet photometric calibration images of standard star BD+28D4211 = using the 4.3 arcsecond aperture. The observations were completed as = planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 18 Successful : 18 2.3 Operations Notes: Operations personnel reported no significant problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
