HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1743 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/21/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/22/96 Daily Status Report as of 296/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of = X-Ray Selected AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known low red shifted x-ray active galactic nuclei (AGN) MS0801.9+2 and = MS1214.3+3. These data will allow a study of the optical properties of = an unbiased sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed Five Sets of FOS/BL 6913 (FOS Cycle 6: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make a = series of stability calibration measurements of the wavelength location = and the location of the spectra. All the observations were internals. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.3 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reporte= d. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy CL-ULIR024. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6452 (Global and Temporal Coverage of a = Atmospheric Regions of the Planet Jupiter) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of selected regions of = the planet Jupiter in order to investigate its atmospheric dynamics. = These data will be used in the interpretations of the observations made = from the Galileo Mission. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6871 (AGN in Low Luminosity Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low luminosity galaxy = NGC-404 and its associated Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). This is one of = the nearest examples of a low luminosity active galactic nuclei in a = small galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6909 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the bright Earth to = obtain streak flats which are used to construct high quality flat fields = for the WF/PC-2 filter set. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 6682 (Geometry and Generalizability of the = Reflected Light Model for Seyfert Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = spectropolarimetry observations of the Seyfert (class 2) galaxy Mark1210 = in order to study its geometry and the generalizablity of its reflected = light model. The goal is to determine if the polarization components of = all Seyfert class two galaxies have Seyfert class one characteristics. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations transitioned to the SAMS back-up facility at = 296/0900Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
