HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1744 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/22/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/23/96 Daily Status Report as of 297/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 6913 (FOS Cycle 6: Location of = Spectra and Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make a = series of stability calibration measurements of the wavelength location = and the location of the spectra. All the observations were internals. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6733 (Spatially Resolved Mapping of Titan's = Atmosphere ) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations at several different = wavelengths of the atmosphere on Saturn's largest moon Titan as part of a = spatially resolved mapping program. Methane gas and organic aerosols are = the major contributor to the atmosphere's opacity. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed FOS/BL 6624 (Time-Resolved Spectrophotmetry of the = Smallest Mass Function Binaries) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make time = resolved, period mode, spectrographic observations of a low mass, x-ray, = binary star system KZ Tri. The observations covered an entire orbital per= iod, but not one orbit. An internal calibration image was also taken. = The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. = The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6802 (Cosmology With the Medium Deep = Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with = the prime science observations as part of the Medium Deep Sky Survey. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were = reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6905 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal calibrations = observations including biases and internal flats as part of a Cycle 6 = calibrations procedure. A variety of internal exposures are run weekly = to verify and monitor the health of the camera. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6364 (Snapshot Survey of Proto-Planetary Nebulae = and AGB Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some snapshot survey observations of = protoplanetary nebular system IRAS17150 to study its circumstellar = envelope. The purpose is to discern the evolutionary sequence that = produces axially-symmetric planetary nebulae. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed FGS 6919 (Three Points of Light Calibration) The FGS were used to make a Three Points of Light calibration by = making observations of standard star UPGREN6. This calibration will be = done at three different points in FGS#3 using three different filters = (pupil, clear and neutral density). This will be used to obtain a = reference transfer function which will be used to deduce the presence of = secondary stars in multiple star systems. The observations were executed = as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations returned from the SAMS back-up facility at = 296/2315Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
