HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1760 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 11/14/96 - 0000Z (UTC) 11/15/96 Daily Status Report as of 320/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two sets of FOS/BL 6407 (Post Asymptotic Giant Branch = Evolution in the Magellanic Clouds) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make = ultraviolet spectrographic observations of planetary nebulae LMC-SMP41 = and LMC_SMP54 which are located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. These = data should give the spatial structure, size, ionized masses, and dynamic = ages of these objects. The observations were executed as planned, and no = problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.3 Completed GHRS/2 6571 (Carbon and Convective Mixing in Hot Helium = Rich White Dwarf Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the Helium rich, white dwarf star = PG0112+104 in order to study its interior structure and convective mixing = by analyzing the Carbon abundances in its spectrum. A wavelength = calibration image was also taken. The guide star loss of lock mentioned = in 2.1 occurred near the end of this proposal. Preliminary indications = are that the proposal may not have been affected. Otherwise, the = observations completed, and no further anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of = X-Ray Selected AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known low red shifted x-ray active galactic nuclus (AGN) MS0135.4+0. = These data will allow a study of the optical properties of an unbiased = sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6934 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Photometric Zero-Point) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of standard star = GRW+70D582 in order to complete a zero-point calibration observation. = The purpose of this program is to verify synthetic zero-point of the = WF/PC-2 filters. The observation was executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 6748 (Abundances of Very Heavy Elements in the = Early Galaxy III) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = observations of the very old, metal poor, halo star HD115444. From these = spectra, the abundances of irridium, lead, platinum, and osmium will be = determined. These elements are synthesized in stellar interiors by = either rapid or slow neutron capture processes. The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 06 Successful : 06 As documented in HSTAR 5797, there was a guide star loss of lock = at 319/130909Z. 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 10 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no reported operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
