HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1791 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/08/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/09/97 Daily Status Report as of 009/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/BL 6407 (Post Asymptotic Giant Branch Evolution in = the Magellanic Clouds) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make ultraviolet = spectrographic observations of planetary nebula LMC-SMP63 which is = located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. These data should give the = spatial structure, size, ionized masses, and dynamic ages of these = objects. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.2 Completed FOS/BL 5515 (Eclipse Mapping of the Touchstone Systems = CM-Dra Cycle 4 Medium) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used in the rapid = mode to make observations of the Touchstone System CM-Draconis (aka, = GL630.1) to do eclipse mapping. The objective is to map the upper = atmosphere of the M4Ve class component of CM Dra by measuring the = disappearance of light during the eclipse of the secondary. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6903 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: = Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several calibration bias = observations, internal flats, K-Spot images and dark calibration images = which are all part of a Cycle 6 decontamination procedure. No science = was interleaved with the dark exposures. The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FOS/RD 6830 (FOS Spectroscopy of NGC-1316 (Fornax A)) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of elliptical galaxy NGC-1316 (aka, Fornax = A). This galaxy is the third brightest radio source in the sky. It also = has twin jets on opposite sides of the nucleus, but no opaque radio core. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6965 (GK-Per- Nova 1901) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the variable star/ = Nova GK-Perseus (aka, Nova 1901). The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6909 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the bright Earth to = obtain streak flats which are used to construct high quality flat fields = for the WF/PC-2 filter set. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 06 Successful : 05 FGS acquisition failure at 009/0530Z See: HSTAR 5868 and section 1.2 of tomorrow's report Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems encountered during the = last reporting period. Real-time operations were moved to the SAMS Facility at 009/0745Z 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: This morning (Jan. 09) the 30-hour Joint Integrated Simulation #5 = (EVA4/Planning/Deploy) is schedule to begin at approximately 9 a.m. It is = scheduled to continue until 3 p.m. tomorrow (Jan. 10). /DMH
