HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1792 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/09/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/10/97 Daily Status Report as of 010/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges = of Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxies NGC-1483 and NGC-488 in order to study their central = bulges. The aim is to investigate the core properties, correlation's = with global galactic properties, and the frequency of occurrence of = multiple and/or miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6344 (Low - Mass Binaries in the Hyades - = Completing the Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary = star RHY101 (M-Class Dwarf Stars) which is located in the Hyades Cluster. = A guide star acquisition failure was reported at 009/0525Z and the system= defaulted to SSM control (RGA only). WF/PC-2 observations 65 and 66 = were affected. (See HSTAR 5868). No other anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/1/2 6522 (Probing the Extended Envelope = of the Zeta Aur Type Binary 32 Cyg.) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two) was used to = make spectrographic observations of the Zeta Aug class binary system = HD192909 (aka, 32 Cyg) in order to study its extended envelope. This = binary system consists of a B class dwarf star, and a K class supergiant = that eclipses the dwarf. A wavelength calibration image was also taken. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. = 1.4 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive = Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were = reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6352 (Dwarf Eliptical Galaxy Snapshots) The WF/PC-2 was used to survey FCC208, from a sample of 30 dwarf = eliptical galaxies. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed GHRS/1 6700 (GHRS Spectroscopy of the Exposed White = Dwarf in The High Accretion Rate Dwarf Nova RX And) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make = ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the exposed, white dwarf nova, = star RX-And in order to study its high accretion rates. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 6590 (The Metallicity of High-Velocity Cloud = Complex C) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the metallicity within the = high velocity cloud known as Complex C within the Markarian Galaxy = Mark290. These observations can only be done using the HST telescope, = because it is required to study spectral lines which are inaccessible by = other ground based telescopes, and other satellites do not have the = required sensitivity. The observations were executed as scheduled, and = no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6360 (A Snapshot Survey of "Radio Loud" IRAS = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = radio loud IRAS galaxy 1ES1059+65. The WF/PC-2 was used to discern high = surface brightness structures in its post-starburst active nuclear = regions. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6902 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Photometric Calibration = Monitor UV/OPT STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both ultraviolet and optical = photometric observations of the standard star GRW+70D582 as part of a = Cycle 6 calibration procedure. These observations were done immediately = before and after decontamination procedures. The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 13 Successful : 13 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 18 Successful : 18 2.3 Operations Notes: HST operations personnel will remain in the SAMS back-up facility = until after the conclusion of SM2 JIS #5 which should occur at = approximately 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH
