HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1805 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/29/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/30/97 Daily Status Report as of 030/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 7203 (Cosmology with the Medium Deep Survey - = Short Orbit Cases) The WF/PC-2 was used to take short (about 20-minute) exposures, to = be taken in parallel with the prime science observations, using the I = filter. These exposures are part of the medium-deep survey, which = emphasizes exposures that will be useful in obtaining cosmological = parameters. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 6044 (Carbon in the ISM of Spirals) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to obtain = ultraviolet and optical spectra of the H II regions in the spiral galaxy = NGC-2403. The intent is to derive the C abundances and C/O ratios at = several positions in this galaxy. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/RD 6007 (Comparison of Large Scale Structures in QSO = Absorbers and Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side ) was used to make = observations of Lyman-Alpha absorber TON155 to do a comparison study of = its large scale structure. This target was selected as a deep, = redshifted galaxy from a survey which already exists. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6609 (The WF/PC-2 B-Band Parallel = Survey: A Systematic and Synoptic Study ) The WF/PC-2 was used to make B-Band survey observations in = parallel with the prime science observations. A total of 216 exposures = will be taken over a period of time to make a statistical study of the = formation and evolution of the galaxies. The observations were executed = as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOC/96 6349 (Snapshot search for High Redshift QSOs with = Far-UV Flux) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make snapshot images of = the quasi-stellar object Q0039-499. This is to determine if this high = redshifted object has a far ultraviolet flux. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 6606 (The Connection Between the Lyman-Alpha = Forest at Z =3D 0.5 and Large Scale Structure in the Galaxy Distribution) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make = spectrographic observations of the quasi-stellar source QSO0015+162 in = order to study the connection between the Lyman-Alpha Forest and the = large scale structure of the galaxy's distribution. These data will = include the region of the Lyman-Alpha Forest, as well a the corresponding = C IV lines. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 2 Successful : 2 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 13 Successful : 13 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 6 Successful : 6 2.3 Operations Notes: The final JIS (#4, Deploy) completed at 05:30 p.m. as planned. HST operations personnel returned from the SAMS back-up facility = at 029/2244Z. No significant problems were reported for the last = twenty-four hours. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: SM2 pre-flight briefings will be conducted tomorrow by and for = HQ/JSC/GSFC personnel from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. It will be = available on NASA TV, channel 9. /DMH
