HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1806 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 01/30/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 01/31/97 Daily Status Report as of 031/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 7202 (The WF/PC-2 B Band Parallel = Survey: A Systematic and Synoptic Study of Galaxy Formation and Evolution = - Short Orbit Case) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations as part of a B-Band = Survey to make synoptic study of galaxy formation and evolution. These = observations were taken in parallel with the prime science observations. = They were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host Galaxies of = BL-Lac Objects) 363 The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object 1ES2326+17 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxy. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6584 (Interaction of Supernovae With = Curcumstellar Material) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Supernova SN1979C. = The objective is to study the interaction between the supernova and the = remnant circumstellar material from the progenitor star, and how that = interaction can sustain supernovae luminocity for long periods. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6773 (The Bucher-Oemler Effect in = Nearby Clusters of Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of several starburst and = post-starburst regions in the nearby galaxies and in the coma of = COMA-D99. These data will be studied to determine what triggers major = episodes of star formation and what physically undermines the observed = Butcher-Oemler effect in more distant galaxies. The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6419 (Testing Unified Models With a Complete = Sample of Seyfert Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the Seyfert galaxy = NGC-4968 to help build a complete survey of the Seyfert class of = galaxies. This will help test the current model for Seyfert class = galaxies. This model proposes that all Seyferts have Seyfert-1 nucleus, = which is surrounded by a torus of gas and dust. The observations were = completed as planned and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no reported operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: SM2 pre-flight briefings begin today at 9:00 a.m. /DMH
