HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1833 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/12/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/13/97 Daily Status Report as of 072/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host = Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects) 363 The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object 1ES1239+45 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxy. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Four Sets of NIC/1 7041 (NICMOS Coarse Optical = Alignment) The Near Iinfrared Camera/1 was used to make observations of the = cluster NGC-3603 in order to complete coarse optical alignment of the = system. The purpose of this activity is to perform a series of iterative = adjustments of the NICMOS pupil alignment mechanism to establish the = initial optical alignment in focus and tilt for its cameras. The = observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed STIS/CCD 7099 (CCD Flat-Field Stability and Cosmetic = Defect Fraction) These observations were used to verify cosmetic defect fraction on = the CCD using flat-field images, and to investigate flat-field stability = over short (minutes) and long (days) time intervals. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 7019 (WF/PC-2 SMOV Flat Field Check) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain a sequence of Earth streak and = internal flats to check for changes at the 1% level. The observations = were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6887 (A Photometric Search for Faint Companions = to Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric search observations of = the nearby star HD61421A in order to look for possible companions. The = technique involves use of the Planetary Camera with wide band pass = filters to photometrically measure for the presence of resolved dark = companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FGS 6882 (Companion to GL6230) The FGSs were used to make POS and TRANS mode astrometric = observations of star GL623 (aka, Gleise 623) looking for possible = companions. Five other reference stars were also used. From these data = the precise parallax, barycentic orbits, and accurate masses of the star = and its companion will be determined. The observations were completed as = schedule, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges of Spiral = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxy NGC-5985in order to study its central bulge. The aim is to = investigate the core properties, correlations with global galactic = properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or = miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 19 Successful : 19 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems. NICMOS was commanded from operate to boot at 071/2050Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of SMOV activities. /DMH
