HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1838 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/19/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/20/97 Daily Status Report as of 079/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of X-Ray Selected = AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known low, red-shifted x-ray active, galactic nucleus (AGN) MS1455.7+2. = These data will allow a study of the optical properties of an unbiased = sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed FGS 6538 (The Distances to Dwarf Novae, and the = Calibration of the Technique of Infrared Spectroscopic Parallax) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the dwarf = novae SS-Aug and several other reference stars in order to measure its = distance from its parallax. The distances to this dwarf novae is poorly = known. This deficiency severely impacts our ability to quantify the = energetics of the various processes taking place in dwarf novae systems. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. = 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy QDOTURIL02. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6887 (A Photometric Search for Faint Companions = to Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric search observations of = the nearby star HD48915A in order to look for possible companions. The = technique involves use of the planetary camera with wide band pass = filters to photometrically measure for the presence of resolved dark = companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed NIC/UPLI 7041 (NICMOS Coarse Optical Alignment) The NIC/1 was used to make observations of the cluster NGC-3603 in = order to completed coarse optical alignment of the system. The purpose = of this activity is to perform a series of iterative adjustments of the = NICMOS pupil alignment mechanism to establish the initial optical = alignment in focus and tilt for its cameras. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed NIC1 7135 (NICMOS Intermediate Focus / Alignment) The NICMOS was used to make observations of NGC-3603. The purpose = of this activity is to perform a series of iterative adjustments of the = NICMOS pupil alignment mechanism to establish the initial optical alignmen= t in focus and tilt for all three cameras. The observations were = completed as schedule, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: No significant operational problems were reported. There was an FGS-1 fold flat 3 move commanded at 078/2024Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of SMOV activities. /DMH
