HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1841 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/24/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/25/97 Daily Status Report as of 084/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 7016 (WF/PC-2 SM97 UV Monitor And Cool Down = Procedure) This operation was used as a post-SM97 cooldown of the WF/PC-2 CCD = to -88C with frequent monitoring of contamination via standard star = GRW+70D582 observations in filter F170W. An internal flat and a dark = calibration image were also taken. The observations were completed as = planed, and no problems were reported 1.2 Completed Four Sets of STIS/CCD 7092 (CCD Dark Rate and Read = Noise) Observations were taken to measure CCD dark current and gather = data for making super darks. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 7022 (WF/PC-2 SM97 Monitor) This calibration proposal is the routine internal monitor for = WF/PC-2, to be run twice weekly to monitor the health of the cameras. A = variety of internal exposures were obtained in order to provide a monitor = of the integrity of the CCD camera electronics in both bays (gain 7 and = gain 15), a test for quantum efficiency in the CCDs, an internal check on = the alignment of the WF/PC-2 optical chain, and a monitor for possible = buildup of contaminants on the CCD windows. This observation was = completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of = X-Ray Selected AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known, low, red-shifted, x-ray active galactic nuclei (AGN) MS0803.3+7 = and MS1020.2+6. These data will allow a study of the optical properties = of an unbiased sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were = completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed STIS/CCD 7099 (CCD Flat-Field Stability and Cosmetic = Defect Fraction) These observations were used to verify cosmetic defect fraction on = the CCD using flat-field images, and to investigate flat-field stability = over short (minutes) and long (days)time intervals. The observations were executed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of FGS 7026 (Fold Flat 3 (FF3) Position = Optimization for FGS-1R) The FGSs were used to make FF3 C FGS-1R S-curves which will be = optimized to achieve a modulation within 10 per-cent of the maximum = accepted value at a particular field location and to produce an = acceptable set of S-curves over the entire FGS field of view. The = folding flat was adjusted using PSTOLs from the ground. The observations = were completed as planned and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed S/C 5582 (FOC/48 Monthly Activation (Camera Section = Only): Cycle 4) This proposal was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6904 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Cal.:Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series of several dark calibration = images as part of a standard calibration within Cycle 6. This = calibration procedure is performed once per week as part of an on going = CCD calibration to be used to monitor and characterize hot pixels. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6905 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal calibrations = observations including biases and internal flats as part of a Cycle 6 = calibrations procedure. A variety of internal exposures are run weekly = to verify and monitor the health of the camera. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host = Galaxies of BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac objects S4-1749+70 and 1ES1249+17 in order to study their e = nvironment and their host galaxies. The goal is to investigate = systematic trends in host galaxy type, unusual morphological features, = nearby companion galaxies, etc. The observations were executed as = scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed STIS/CCD 7067 (STIS CCD Point Source Acquisition = (STIS10)) The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to make = observations of point source GD153. This is to demonstrate ability of = the STIS FSW to locate an isolated point source, determine the position = of a spectroscopic slit, and position the target within the slit. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed COSTAR/U FOC/96 7009 (FOC/COSTAR Initial Alignment) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of = HZ4. The images will be analyzed to determine focus and coma = aberrations, and to determine the adjustments to the COSTAR DOB and FOC = M1 arm tilts that will remove these aberrations. An internal flat = calibration was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, = and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 8 Successful : 8 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems.
