HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1842 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/25/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/26/97 Daily Status Report as of 085/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOC/96 7014 (FOC/96 Throughput) The Faint object Camera (f/96) absolute sensitivity was measured = with COSTAR in the beam. This will provide an estimate of the = degradation of the FOC sensitivity over the three years since the first = servicing mission, when an identical set of measurements were taken. The = observations were executed as scheduled and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of = X-Ray Selected AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known low, red-shifted, x-ray active galactic nuclei (AGN) MS1205.7+6 and = MS1136.5+3. ,These data will allow a study of the optical properties of = an unbiased sample of AGN host galaxies. ,The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6887 (A Photometric Search for Faint Companions = to Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric search observations of = the nearby star HD90839 in order to look for possible companions. The = technique involves use of the planetary camera with wide band pass = filters to photometrically search for the presence of resolved dark = companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6587 (Black Holes and Cores of Early-Type = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of early-type galaxy = NGC-4073 in order to study its nuclear core region and its possible black = hole. The campaign to find black holes in the centers of galaxies using = HST has so far been highly successful. The observations were completed = as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6632 (Morphologies of High Redshifted Radio = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the high, red-shifted = radio galaxy GAL-1348+2 in order to study its morphology. This is part = of a study of the continuum and Lyman-Alpha morphologies of 20 high = redshifted radio galaxies which was begun in Cycle 5. The observations = were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host Galaxies of = BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object PKS1519-27 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxy. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6352 (Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy Snapshots) The WF/PC-2 was used to survey galaxy VCC118, from a sample of 30 = dwarf elliptical galaxies. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 26 Successful : 26 2.3 Operations Notes: After the NICMOS dewar truss temperature (HSTAR 5994) and the = NICMOS dewar bottom shell temperature (HSTAR 5995) went below their = operational limits, the NICMOS thermal TC heater was turned on at = 084/1512Z. It was turned off at 085/0211Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of SMOV activities. /DMH
