HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1848 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/02/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/03/97 Daily Status Report as of 093/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: The following scheduled science observations and calibrations could not = be executed due to the software sun point safing event which occurred at = 090/2314Z: 1.1 Four Sets of STIS/CCD 7092 (CCD Dark Rate and Read Noise) 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6598 (The Reddest Objects in The Universe) 1.3 WF/PC-2 6906 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Internal Monitor-Visual Flats) 1.4 WF/PC-2 6703 (Weak Radio Galaxies at Z > 2: Imaging a Unique Sample) 1.5 WF/PC-2 7019 (WF/PC-2 SMOV Flat Field Check) 1.6 WF/PC-2 6556 (Rest-Frame Ultraviolet Imaging of Normal Galaxies at High Redshifts) ********************* Start of SMS day 93/1800Z ********************* 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host Galaxies of = BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object QSO-0754+1 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxies. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges of Spiral = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxy NGC-1385 in order to study its central bulge. The aim is = to investigate the core properties, correlations with global galactic = properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or = miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of = X-Ray Selected AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known, low, red-shifted, x-ray, active galactic nuclei (AGN) MS1108.6+3 = and MS0754.6+3. These data will allow a study of the optical properties = of an unbiased sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were = completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy QDOTULIR09. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The failed acquisition mentioned in 2.1 occurred just before = this proposal began, and the take data flag did not come up. No further = anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 6 The acquisition at 092/224256Z failed to acquire. HSTAR 6005 was = written. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Operations Notes: NICMOS was transitioned to SAA operations at 092/2332Z. At = 092/2339Z, NICMOS filter wheel test case 1 was run: at 092/2346Z, NICMOS = filter wheel test case 2 was run. NICMOS was commanded to boot mode at = 093/0107Z, and transitioned to boot at 093/0116Z 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of normal science and SMOV operations. /DMH
