HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1849 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/03/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/04/97 Daily Status Report as of 094/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed of WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of X-Ray = Selected AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known, low, red-shifted, x-ray, active galactic nuclius (AGN) MS0754.6+3. = These data will allow a study of the optical properties of an unbiased = sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6424 (Calibrations of Stellar Evolutionary Ages = and Variations in the LMF) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the relatively old, = open cluster NGC-2420 to determine the luminosity and mass function (LMF) = of the white dwarfs and low mass (i.e., red) stars and to make a = calibration study of stellar evolutionary ages. The observations was exec= uted as scheduled and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 7019 (WF/PC-2 SMOV Flat Field Check) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain sequences of Earth streak and = internal flats to check for changes at the 1% level. The observations wer= e completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported 1.4 Completed FOC/96 6580 (Hot Stars and Young Super Star Clusters in = the Wolf-Rayet Starbursting Galaxy) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make an intensive study = of the hot stars and the super star bursting knots (aka, super star = clusters) which are located in the starbursting regions of the Wolf-Rayet = galaxy He2-10. A Wolf-Rayet galaxy is a starburst galaxy which is just = past the onset of the star formation burst, in which a large number of = the most massive stars have evolved to the Wolf-Rayet stage. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host Galaxies of = BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object H0414+009 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxy. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges of Spiral = Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxies NGC-1640 and ESO549G18 in order to study their central = bulges. The aim is to investigate the core properties, correlations with = global galactic properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple = and/or miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6352 (Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy Snapshots) The WF/PC-2 was used to survey FCC150, from a sample of 30 dwarf = elliptical galaxies. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of normal science and SMOV operations. /DMH
