HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1852 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/08/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/09/97 Daily Status Report as of 099/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6904 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Cal.:Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series of several dark calibration = images as part of a standard calibration within Cycle 6. This = calibration procedure is performed once per week as part of an on going = CCD calibration to be used to monitor and characterize hot pixels. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host Galaxies of = BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object S4-0814+42 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxies. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6443 (High Resolution Imaging of the Luminous = Infrared Source IRAS 09104+4109) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution images of the = luminous infrared source IRAS09104+4109. The nuclear spectrum from IRAS = survey indicates the presence of a dust enshrouded quasar, yet the = apparent ionizing flux of the AGN falls short of that required to produce = the infrared luminosity by a large factor. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of STIS/CCD 7092 (CCD Dark Rate and Read Noise) Observations were taken to measure CCD dark current and to gather = data for making super darks. A bias calibration observation was also = completed. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies = were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 7590 (Cosmological Parameters Omega and Lambda = >From High-Redshift Type IA Supernovae) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of type 1A supernova = SN9784 in order to study its redshift, making direct measurements of the = cosmological parameters Omega, Lambda, and curvature (Omega_k) using Type = 1A supernovae (SNe 1a) as a calibrated "standard candle". The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of X-Ray Selected = AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known, low, red-shifted, x-ray active, galactic nuclei (AGN) MS1231.4+1, = MS1306.1-0 and MS1110.3+2. These data will allow a study of the optical = properties of an unbiased sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations = were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed NIC 7034 (NICMOS Field Offset Mechanism Test) The NICMOS Near Infrared Cameras were used to conduct a field = offset mechanism test. A 25-point spiral dither pattern is used to = generated a 5 x 5 grid of point source and thermal background = observations in each camera. The tests were conducted as scheduled, and = no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 19 Successful : 19 2.3 Operations Notes: The Battery #6 Capacity Test is continuing. The battery was = connected to solar array section 6 at 099/1426Z, and charging commenced = at 099/1445Z. Two NICMOS HSTARs were submitted. 6019 documented parameter = NTCPWR going out-of-limits low at 098/1652Z during SAA Level 1. 6020 = recorded a detector 2 DC offset at 099/0821Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of normal science and SMOV operations. /DMH
