HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1856 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/14/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/15/97 Daily Status Report as of 105/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6883 (Orbital Parameters of Known Binary) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the known = binary star system SAO103656 (aka ADS 11300) in order to obtain its = orbital parameters. The target is a known double star with an orbital = period of 54 years. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6905 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal calibration = observations including biases and internal flats as part of a Cycle 6 = calibrations procedure. A variety of internal exposures are run weekly = to verify and monitor the health of the camera. The observations were = executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Three Sets of NIC/2/3 7053 (NICMOS Limb Avoidance = Determination) The Near Infrared Cameras (Camera Two and Three) were used to make = limb avoidance determination observations. The purpose of this test is = to determine the appropriate bright and dark Earth limb avoidance angles = for NICMOS science observations. Angles for both routine and = low-background observations were be determined. The observations were = executed as schedule, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed STIS/CCD 7142 (STIS CCD Flat Fielding) The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to make = field-flatting calibration observations. These CCD Delta-flats are = intended to monitor CCD stability over monthly time scales. The = observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6363 (The Environments and Host Galaxies of = BL-Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = BL-Lac object 1ES1255+24 in order to study its environment and its host = galaxies. The goal is to investigate systematic trends in host galaxy = type, unusual morphological features, nearby companion galaxies, etc. = The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Three Sets of STIS/CCD 7092 (CCD Dark Rate and Read = Noise) Observations were taken to measure CCD dark current and to gather = data for making super darks. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed STIS/CCD 7124 (Kinematics of the Nuclear Gas Disk in the = Galaxy M84) The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to make = observations of the galaxy M-83 (NGC-4374) in order to study the = kinematics of its nuclear disk. This is to detect a super massive black = hole in its active galactic nuclei. A wavelength calibration observation = was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6904 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Cal.:Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series of several dark calibration = images as part of a standard calibration within Cycle 6. This = calibration procedure is performed once per week as part of an on-going = CCD calibration to be used to monitor and characterize hot pixels. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed STIS/CCD 7071 (CCD Target Centering) The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to make = observations of star GD153 in order to make calibration measurements to = center the image in the CCD. The purpose of this proposal is to = demonstrate the ability of the STIS FSW to center (peakup on) an isolated = point source within a spectroscopic slit using the CCD detector. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy QDOTULIR12. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.11 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges = of Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to observe spiral galaxy ESO508G34 in order = to study its central bulge. The aim is to investigate the core = properties, correlations with global galactic properties, and the = frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or miscentered nuclei. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 05 Successful : 05 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 04 Successful : 04 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 28 Successful : 28 2.3 Operations Notes: No significant operational problems were encountered during the = last 24 hours. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of normal science and SMOV operations. /DMH
