HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1857 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/15/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/16/97 Daily Status Report as of 106/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Four Sets of NIC/2/3 7053 (NICMOS Limb Avoidance = Determination) The Near Infrared Cameras (Cameras Two and Three) were used to = make limb avoidance determination observations. The purpose of this test = is to determine the appropriate bright and dark Earth limb avoidance = angles for NICMOS science observations. Angles for both routine and = low-background observations were be determined. The observations were = executed as schedule, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed NIC/1/2 7111 (Orion OMC-1) The Near Infrared Cameras (Cameras One and Two) were used to make = observations of Orion's Molecular Cloud (Regions A/B/C/D). The NICMOS = should reveal intriguing morphological details, imaging the multiple = finger-like features radiating from these regions with high spatial = resolution. A dark calibration image was also taken. The observations = were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6346 (Snapshot Survey of the Ultraluminous IRAS = Galaxy Sample-Part 1 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of the = ultraluminous IRAS galaxy IR15327+23. These data will be searched for = multiple cores, which imply a merger has occurred, and for starburst = regions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.4 Completed NIC/1/2/3 7043 (NICMOS Focus Monitor) The Near Infrared Cameras (Cameras One, Two, and Three) were used = to make observations of NGC-3603 in order to make focus calibration and = monitoring measurements. This proposal is built to run NIC/1/2 focus = sweeps on a weekly basis, and NIC/3 focus sweeps twice a week during SMOV. The observations = were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the = Bulges of Spiral Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of = spiral galaxies IC5256 and IC879 in order to study their central bulges. = The aim is to investigate the core properties, correlations with global = galactic properties, and the frequency of occurrence of multiple and/or = miscentered nuclei. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no = anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6352 (Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy = Snapshots) The WF/PC-2 was used to survey VCC1073, from a sample of 30 dwarf = elliptical galaxies. The observations were completed as planned, and no = anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 14 Successful : 14 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 2 Successful : 2 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 34 Successful : 34 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no scheduled ERO proposals performed today. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of normal science and SMOV operations. /DMH
