HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1864 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/24/97 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/25/97 Daily Status Report as of 115/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Three Sets of NIC/1/2/3 7056 (NICMOS Scattered Light = Determination) The Near Infrared Cameras (NIC One, Two and Three) were used to = make observations of standard star HD106965 in order to measure scattered = light in the cameras. This is to measures scattered light effects = produced in the cameras by the presence of a bright red star located few = to several seconds of arc away from the field of view. Just before the = last iteration of this proposal, the FHST update failed. However, all = observations were executed as scheduled, and no effect on science was = noted. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 7553 (Pure Parallel Archive Survey = II) WF/PC-2 parallel observations were obtained in the ultraviolet in = search for interesting objects. This program is designed to find = extragalactic sources with near ultraviolet excesses (3000 A0) outside = the galactic plane and far ultraviolet sources (1600 A0) in the galactic = plane. The procedure was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = reported. 1.3 Completed STIS/CCD 7063 (STIS SMOV CCD Contamination Monitor) The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to make = observations of standard star GD153 in order to measure flux and look = for any gross changes over time that might indicate contamination. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. = 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6903 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 6 Calibration: = Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several calibration bias = observations, internal flats, K-Spot images and dark calibration images = which are all part of a Cycle 6 decontamination procedure. No science = was interleaved with the dark exposures. The observations were completed = as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed NIC/1/2/3 7051 (NICMOS Detector Noise and Dark = Characterization - Non-Occulted) The Near Infrared Cameras (NIC One, Two and Three) were used to = detector noise and dark chacturizational calibration observations. The = purpose of this proposal is to characterize NICMOS read noise and dark = current for the three cameras, verification of the stability since SLTV, = and measurements of the cosmic ray event outside SAA. The observations = were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed FGS 6876 (Parallax of RR-Lyrae) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the = variable star RR-Lyrae. RR Lyrae is the prototype of a class of stars = that provide a fundamental stepping stone for the astronomical distance = scale. Its trigonometric parallax is presently known to be around 0.0042 = +/- 0.0019 arcsec for a distance modulus of 6.86 +/- 0.6 mag. It is the = only star of this class with the parallax range of HST. The observations = were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6361 (High Resolution Imaging of X-Ray Selected = AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the = known, low, red-shifted, x-ray active galactic nucleus (AGN) MS1846. = These data will allow a study of the optical properties of an unbiased = sample of AGN host galaxies. The observations were completed as = scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 14 The update at 114/2323Z failed. 2.3 Operations Notes: The Battery #2 capacity test was completed. Results are not = currently available. STIS was commanded to operate and the CCD was powered on at = 114/2300Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Continuation of normal science and SMOV operations. /DMH
