This directory contains spectroscopic data from the paper "Faint
High-Latitude Carbon Stars Discovered by the Sloan Digitial Sky
Survey: An Initial Catalog" by Ronald A. Downes et al. (2004, AJ, 127, 2838).
The data are available in three formats - jpg images of plots
of each spectrum (one file per object), individual fits files of each
spectrum (.fit), and a merged fits file (a tar file containing all the
objects - carbon.tar).  The naming convention for the objects is that
used in the paper, with the exception that the "+" and "-" in the
object names is replaced by "p" and "m".

The flux scale on all spectra are 10    ergs cm   sec   A  . 
Note that, in the jpg files, poorly subtracted night sky lines
have been manually removed, and all spectra have been smoothed with a 
boxcar function of width 5 pixels.
