NETWORK ARCHIVE UTILITIES


compress.tar		public domain UNIX compress/uncompress utilities
compress_vms.exe	compress executable for VMS
compress_vms.tar	source for VMS versions of compress/uncompress and sum
Ieee			utilities for conversion of IRAF images and STSDAS 
			tables from Sun to Vax or Vax to Sun format
sum.c			utility to compute BSD file checksums
sum_vms.exe		BSD checksum executable for VMS

lwpage			extract the given range of pages from a postscript doc
mkps			convert a troff document to postscript

zzutil			utilities used to maintain the distribution

VMS NOTES

Briefly, to use these utilities, after copying the files to the local VMS
system with ftp (be sure to do a "binary"), you must set up a foreign task
definition in DCL, e.g.:

	$ compress    :== "$disk:[dir]compress_vms.exe compress"
	$ uncompress  :== "$disk:[dir]compress_vms.exe uncompress"
	$ sum         :== "$disk:[dir]sum_vms.exe"

where the strings "disk:[dir]compress_vms.exe" etc. are replaced by the actual
disk, directory, and filenames used on your system.
