See ACS ISR 2004-07 for details on the production of ACS superbias and superdark reference files.

From launch (March 2002) until October 2004, a WFC and HRC superdark was typically produced for every day of the year. Starting in October 2004, a superdark will be produced every other day. The "best" superdark is typically available for use in the pipeline 2-3 weeks after an observation date. ACS users are advised to retrieve (or re-retrieve) their data via OTFR after the best superdark is available.
