2.5 Quicklook PDF Products
When retrieving their data, observers may request to receive PDF product files which summarize the data obtained. These products, also known as `quicklook products', are used both for giving the GO a summary of their observations and for data quality evaluation at the STScI. These products will not be produced by default. Users need to manually request for production of quicklook products in the options menu when downloading data via OTFR.
Quicklook products consist typically of one visit in an observing proposal and either describe the details of a single exposure or, for the purpose of easy comparison, summarize the ensemble of exposures. A given page in the PDF products falls into one of two categories: visit-level page or exposure-level page. In the PDF file, each of these pages will be indexed, so the observer can use the bookmarks feature in the Acrobat Reader to jump to any part of the quicklook product.
Users are encouraged to read ACS ISR 99-10, which provides more detail about the ACS Quicklook PDF Products. A brief description of the visit-level and exposure-level pages is given below.
Visit-level Pages
- Cover Page
- A cover page containing the proposal ID, the visit number, the name of the primary investigator, and the proposal title.
- Explanatory Notes
- A set of notes explaining PDF products in general and the information they contain.
- Target List
- A table listing each target name, position and description in the set of observations being summarized.
- Observation Summary
- A table recapping the instrument configuration for each exposure in the set of observations being summarized. This table includes three post-processing data quality flags.
- Optional Parameters
- A table listing the "optional parameters" specified in the proposal for the observation set being summarized, including the detector, obsmode, gain, etc.
- Observing Pattern Strategy
- A table listing the observing pattern (dither/mosaic strategy) for each exposure in the set of observations being summarized.
Exposure-level Pages
- Exposure Plots
- A graphical representation of the data contained in each exposure, including the final calibrated science image, a smaller subarray of that image (WFC only) showing the details of the field centered at the target position, and, for associated exposures, all individual images in a stamp format.
- Data Quality Summary
- A comprehensive summary of the spacecraft performance, pipeline processing status, and calibration data quality for each exposure.
- Calibration Reference File Summary
- A summary of the calibration processing switches and reference files used to process each exposure.
