ACS is a versatile instrument with a broad range of scientific capabilities:
ACS was built with three channels, each optimized for a specific goal:
In addition to its primary capabilities listed above, ACS has also provided:
Prism spectroscopy: low resolution (R ~100 @ 1500 ) far-UV spectroscopy from 1250  to 1800  with SBC (and low resolution (R = 59 @ 2500 ) near-UV spectroscopy from 1700  to 3900  with HRC before January 2007).
Coronagraphy (before January 2007): aberrated beam coronagraphy with HRC from 2000  to 11,000  with 1.8 arcsecond and 3.0 arcsecond diameter occulting spots.
