+--------------------------------------------------------+ | STScI Analysis Newsletter (STAN) | Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) | Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) | June 2010 +--------------------------------------------------------+ In this Newsletter we provide some updates of interest to COS and STIS users who will be drafting and submitting Phase 2 HST programs over the next several weeks. -------------------------------------------------------------- Revisions to Recommendations for COS Target Acquisitions For phase 2 of Cycle 18 there are some important changes to the recommended COS target acquisition procedures. The details of these changes and current recommendations are discussed in COS ISR 2010-14. Most notable is the relaxation of the requirement that essentially all COS observing programs start with an ACQ/SEARCH exposure sequence. A detailed discussion of when a simplified acquisition strategy can be used is presented in this STAN article. -------------------------------------------------------------- APT Changes of Special Interest to COS and STIS Observers. APT version 18.2 has been released with the following changes: GALAX data was added to the Bright Object Tool for field checks, mas/yr and "/yr were included as proper motion units, and the display of the relationship between the STIS long-slits and the MAMA detectors was improved. This version must be used for all Cycle 18 Phase 2 proposal submissions. +----------------------------------------------------------+ | Need help? http://www.stsci.edu/hst/cos/help.html +----------------------------------------------------------+ | To subscribe or unsubscribe to the STAN, send a message | to majordomo@stsci.edu with a blank subject line and | the following in the body: [un]subscribe cos_news | or [un]subscribe stis_news +----------------------------------------------------------+ | The Space Telescope Science Institute is operated by the | Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, | Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555. +----------------------------------------------------------+
