1.4 Organization of this Document
Chapter 2 provides a system overview of HST. Chapter 3 discusses the performance of the telescope. Chapter 4 provides information on the Scientific Instruments available for use in Cycle 12. Chapter 5 discusses a variety of issues, such as Bright Object constraints, relevant to the preparation and execution of HST observations. Chapter 6 explains how to calculate the appropriate orbit resources to request in a Phase I observing proposal, and Chapter 7 discusses data processing and the HST Data Archive.
A variety of additional information is provided in the Appendices, including examples of Phase I orbit calculations for each of the Cycle 12 instruments (Appendix A), descriptions of former HST instruments that may be of interest for Archival Research (Appendix B), a glossary of acronyms and abbreviations (Appendix C) and a listing of internet links used in the document (Appendix D).
