Changes to Cycle 10 process for STIS proposals
There are two significant changes to the Cycle 10
proposal process, with impact to STIS observations.
FUV-MAMA Repeller Off as an Available Mode for High
Resolution Spectroscopy
We advertise the opportunity for proposals that would
push STIS to the limiting resolving power in the FUV.
We find that the FUV-MAMA has improved resolving power
(at the cost of sensitivity) when the repeller-wire
high-voltage is turned off. Application is recommended
shortward of 1400A, only for the FUV echelle modes
E140H, and possibly for E140M, when applied with the
0.1x0.03 aperture, the so-called "Jenkins slit."
Jul 2000-Reference File Updates
Many updated reference files have been installed in the
calibration pipeline. The darks and biases are now
complete through June 2000, the pht table was updated
using revised flux distributions of the white dwarf
standard stars, the sdc table was modified so that the
value of CRPIX2 no longer shift the field of view to
center the target in the x2d file, and the dispersion
coefficients for first order MAMA modes was updated
using in-flight data.
