CONTENTS: -Overview of STIS Status after Orbital Verification -STIS NUV MAMA Detector Dark Current -STIS CCD Detector - Living with Radiation Damage +----------------------------------------------------------+ Overview of STIS Status after Orbital Verification STIS was successfully repaired during SM4. While its performance is similar to that prior to the 2004 failure, there are some important differences. STIS NUV MAMA Detector Dark Current The STIS NUV MAMA, while otherwise performing well, appears to at least temporarily have a dark current several times higher than that which had been predicted and which was adopted for use in the STIS Cycle 17 exposure-time calculator. At best, it will be several months before the dark current declines to anything close to the expected level. STIS CCD Detector - Living with Radiation Damage We discuss the effects of radiation damage on the STIS CCD detector and strategies that observers can use to mitigate these effects. +----------------------------------------------------------+ | Need help? http://www.stsci.edu/hst/stis/help.html +----------------------------------------------------------+ | To subscribe or unsubscribe to the STAN, send a message | to majordomo@stsci.edu with a blank subject line and | the following in the body: [un]subscribe stis_news +----------------------------------------------------------+ | The Space Telescope Science Institute is operated by the | Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, | Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555. +----------------------------------------------------------+
