Space Telescope Science Institute Terms of Service

Who We Are and Our Mission

  • The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) enables excellence in astronomical research by optimizing the science from state-of-the-art observational instruments in space. We provide information about astronomy to the public and assist the astronomical community in using space observatories.

  • STScI is a free-standing science center, located on the campus of The Johns Hopkins University and operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). STScI conducts the science program for the Hubble Space Telescope and will conduct the science and mission operations for the James Webb Space Telescope. We support other astronomy programs and conduct world-class scientific research.
