Symposium schedule:
IAU Symposium 258 opens on Monday morning, October 13, 2008 and closes at
midday on Friday, October 17. We plan to be in session from 9 am to 5 pm daily,
except for Wednesday afternoon.
Special Events:
We are arranging the following special events:
- Sunday evening, October 12: An opening reception for all participants.
- Wednesday afternoon, October 15: Special tours of Baltimore attractions,
including the National Aquarium and the Walters Art Gallery.
- Thursday evening, October 16: Join your colleagues for a special conference banquet.
We are reserving the George Peabody Library, home to one of the world's great collections
of rare books. This extraordinary space will provide a dramatic setting for this event.
More about the Peabody Library may be seen at:
http://www.peabodyevents.library.jhu.edu/
The cost of this event is $65 and it is not
included in the registration fee. The available space is limited, so be sure to sign up early.
- Friday afternoon, October 17: A special session at the Space Telescope Science
Institute for all attendees to hear about progress with Hubble after Servicing
Mission 4 and our plans for the James Webb Space Telescope. This is at no cost.
- Saturday, October 18: We will arrange bus transportation so that symposium
attendees can visit Washington D.C. for the day. The cost will be minimal
(probably less than $25 each) and will cover the bus only so that you may spend
the day in our nation’s capital.
