Dave is an SMS Supervisor; he also serves as the SMSB Webmaster and
is the Lead of the Long Range Planning Group. He got his BA in Astrophysics from Boston
University in 1982, and his Masters (1985) and PhD (1989) in Astronomy
from the University of Virginia. He started with CSC at the Institute in 1996;
prior positions include a postdoctoral appointment with the BIMA group at the
University of Illinois and AIPS manager at the NRAO's Very Large Array in
Socorro New Mexico. His research interests focus on star formation and
the interstellar medium in the Milky Way and nearby spiral galaxies.

Institute in 1985 as a console operator. He moved to his current position
in 1989. His professional interests include astronomical space observatory
operations; real-time, transient, ephemeral astronomical phenomena; formation process of
volumetric Lichtenberg Figures via electrostatic discharge caused by induced dielectric
breakdown; and volumetric display devices.
Jack MacConnell - Room 314E (x4800) Email:macconnell@stsci.edu
Jack is an SMS supervisor. He got his undergaduate degree in Math and PhD in
Astronomy (1967) at Case Western Reserve University. He came to SPST with CSC at
the Institute in 1986. Previously, he was a research associate at the University
of Michigan, and a staff member of the Venezuelan National Astronomy Center; he also
