High School Research Mentor Program

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is the science and operations center for the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope. Its world-class staff carries out investigations in astronomy, astrophysics and engineering.

STScI's High School Research Mentor Program supports active research participation by high school students in science, engineering and computing projects carried out by STScI staff. The STScI program runs during the school year as well as the summer.

Deadline for applications is 2 April 2012. The 2012-2013 program starts after 17 June 2012. This is an unpaid internship.

Eligibility

For consideration in this program, students should meet the following criteria:

  1. Completed 10th grade or be 16 years of age as of 18 June 2012.
  2. Attend high school within 50 miles the Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, MD.
  3. Submit a complete application by the deadline.
  4. If selected as semi-finalist, must participate in a formal interview.
  5. Must be committed to participate on a full time basis during the Summer (i.e. Monday to Friday for 8 weeks).
  6. And/or 4-6 hours per week during the Academic Year.
