My research focuses on the heating and ionization of the interstellar and intergalactic media, with special emphasis on the physics of collisionless shocks. In this work I focus on the kinematics of supernova remnants (both non-radiative and radiative), the role of cosmic ray acceleration in
shocks and the dynamical evolution of high velocity clouds.
I am also interested in the dispersal of heavy elements by supernova explosions. The main tool of my research is spectroscopy (optical, ultraviolet and infrared). |

I am Postdoc with Roelof S. de Jong and Ron J. Allen on different projects here at STSCI. My thesis work and follow-up is the opacity of spiral galaxy disks using the number of distant galaxies in HST images as an indicator. As part of the SINGS team, I compared these counts of distant objects to infrared indicators of dust. Spitzer's view on edge-on spirals is my current focus (ISM distribution, truncation), as well as processing the counts in large ACS mosaics of M51, M101 and M81. My manual on Source Extractor is still pretty useful.
My research interests are: (1) the opacity of spiral disks, (2) the structure of spiral disks, both ISM and stars, (3) the formation and evolution of spiral disks." |
