Susan Benecchi
Postdoc

11/01/2006-10/31/2009
My work focuses on Kuiper belt binaries. I've been a member of the Deep Ecliptic Survey (DES) team, a group that discovers, catalogs and follows up on Kuiper Belt objects for the purposes of dynamical and physical studies. My primary observations are photometric in nature and include lightcurves and orbits for these objects.

My research focuses on the Interstellar Medium in the Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds, and nearby galaxies. I use both gas and dust as tracers to answer fundamental questions about star formation. I am particularly interested in investigating how the gas collapses and fragments to form stars and star clusters, and what causes the onset of star formation (e.g., turbulence, gravity, shocks...). I am also currently working on the properties of dust in the Magellanic Clouds and how these properties change with local environment.

07/02/2007-07/01/2010
Photometry and spectroscopy of resolved stellar populations in the Milky Way, LMC and SMC, as well as other galaxies in and around the Local Group.

Bethan James
Postdoc

9/14/09-9/14/12
My main research focus is on starburst galaxies; particularly blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDs). My PhD involved the optical and infrared analysis of BCDs using imaging, spectroscopy and IFU spectroscopy. I am interested in their chemical abundances (of neutral and ionised gas), stellar populations, star formation rates & histories, kinematics and various other properties of their ISM.

My research interests include star and planet formation, protoplanetary disks, evolved stars, exoplanets, and the interstellar medium. I enjoy learning about these systems by studying their dust via their spectra.
