Visitor Information

The following information is provided for official visitors to Space Telescope Science Institute. We regret that, beyond our monthly public lecture series and our other official public outreach programs, we are unable to accommodate visits to STScI without prior arrangements.

Procedures for staff wishing to invite a U.S. visitor:

STScI science staff may request financial support for visits to STScI by their scientific colleagues in order to collaborate on research projects.

Request for foreign visitor funding must be request through the DDRF, contact Harry Ferguson, ferguson@stsci.edu.

If you are a staff member wishing to do this, start by reading this document:

Next, presuming that you have started the process early enough (see Guidelines), complete a request following this template:


...and e-mail it to the Program Manager (currently Harry Ferguson, fegurson@stsci.edu) who will evaluate your request and (usually) return an approval to you within a few days.

Your next step is to complete Part A of this web form:
Next, have your Visitor complete Part B of the same form.


Your visitor can then correspond directly with the Program Assistant (currently Pam Turner, turner@stsci.edu) to deal with travel issues, office assignments, etc.:

Your visitor may need directions to STScI and other logistical information:

Visitors should be made aware of allowable and non-allowable expenses that will be reimbursed. Please see the following pdf file for details: Expense Report Rules for Visitors. Also available as an html document.

The following form will have to be completed before any reimbursement can be paid:

  • Tax Form W-9
  • (if you have a Social Security Number use this form)
