The Giacconi Fellowships, named in honor of Nobel Prize winner and former director of STScI Riccardo Giacconi, provide up to three years of support for outstanding postdoctoral researchers in any field of astronomy, astrophysics, or planetary science. The research may be theoretical, observational, or instrumental. The fellowships includes a competitive salary, generous benefits, and a budget to cover research expenses. The selection will be based on the accomplishments and proposed research of the applicants.
The Giacconi Fellowship is awarded every two out of three years. The next Giacconi Fellowship is to start in 2017. Detailed program policies and application instructions may be found in the Announcement of Opportunity. Applicants must follow the instructions given in that announcement. A complete listing of all Giacconi Fellows since the inception of the program in 2004 can be found at Giacconi Fellows.
