INS Master Schedule
Current schedule updated on May 23, 2007:
Description
The INS Master Schedule is used to track the "project-level" work being done by people in the INS Division. Small pieces of work being done by one or two people entirely within INS and without significant dependencies are not being tracked in this schedule, nor are routine calibration type efforts. The schedule is available in three different forms: a PDF file of the current schedule, a PDF file of a "tracking Gantt" view of the current schedule, and the MS Project file with the current schedule. In addition, previous versions of the basic schedule, in PDF format, can be found on a separate page.
The current schedule shows each task as a light blue bar with progress indicated by a black bar partially overlaying the task bar. The main level task bar (a "roll-up" task, consisting of one or more subtasks) is black with, generally, a downward-pointing pointer at each end; a few such tasks have lower-level roll-ups, and those are the same shape as the main task bar but are blue in color. There are some tasks that have undefined or uncertain durations; those are indicated by a "?" in the Duration field for the task, and the main task roll-up bar is missing the pointer on the right-hand end.
The tracking Gantt chart displays the changes made since the previous baseline version of the schedule, in addition to the progress of the work. In this version, the current schedule is denoted by light blue bars for each task, work progress by the dark blue bar overlaying the current schedule bar, and the baseline schedule is indicated by a gray bar immediately below the current schedule bar. General progress of the roll-up tasks is indicated by the hatched bar immediately below the roll-up bar.
INS Master Schedule Maintenance Process
The INS Master Schedule Maintenance Process document describes the process used to update the schedule. This document, controlled by the INS Division Office, defines the timetable for updates, the content of updates, and establishes the authority for making changes to the schedule. For document maintenance purposes, a version in MS Word is available, too.
Work Item Descriptions (no longer being used)
The following links provide access to the written descriptions of each work item being tracked on the INS Master Schedule. The descriptions include information on
- Instrument and Item Title
- INS Lead Personnel
- Schedule Constraints and Dependencies
- Risks and Open Issues
- Priority
- Priority Justification
- Resources Required
- Documentation and Deliverables
The information is sorted by instrument/area of application, and each instrument's descriptions are ordered by the basic time period that the work will be started: early FY06, late FY06, FY07.
