In addition to ground-based optical and near-infrared imaging, deep radio mapping, and extensive spectroscopy, this entire region has been imaged by the Chandra, Spitzer (IRAC and MIPS), and GALEX missions. Robust photometric redshifts (calibrated using over 20, 000 spectroscopic redshifts) exist for all sources brighter than R=24.5 or than 13 uJy at 4.5 microns. To enhance the value of this data set, we propose pure parallel observations for all approved Cycle 16 programs in this region that lack coordinated parallel observations. The primary aim of this program will be to provide a database useful for the broad range of science programs underway in this region. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11198( 7) - 11/29/07 09:57 - [ 2] Observations Description ------------------------ The proposed program is fundamentally straightforward. We requested data from WFPC2 (F814W) and NICMOS (NIC3 with F160W) whenever these instruments are not utilized by the primary science program. Use of the F814W filter with WFPC2 is designed to optimize the S/N for morphological classification of galaxies out to z=2. We are only aware of primary program in Bootes without coordinated parallels, which was awarded 44 orbits (11153, PI: Malhotra). The primary orbits for this program are all with NICMOS, so we expect that most if not all of our pure parallels will be with WFPC2. We do include however specifications for NICMOS parallels in case there are any SNAP or TOO observations in the field during this cycle. The basic goal is to maximize the exposure times for WFPC2 and NICMOS parallels, particularly for WFPC2 parallels of program 11153. The PI for this program has informed us that the primary observations for that program with NICMOS will employ SAMP-SEQ=SPARS64 and NSAMP=23. All of our visit specifications are for single orbits, but we want the observations repeated if the primary program is utilizing a multi-orbit visit. Note that I inserted a number of different visits for NICMOS parallels with different NSAMP values and numbers of iterations because it was unclear to me the degree to which the scheduling software will autoadjust.
