These objects have either poor or no existing parallax measurements. FGS parallax determinations for these systems, with their existing dynamic masses determed to better than 0.5%, would serve as model-independent anchor points for the low-mass end of the mass-luminosity diagram. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ The attached Phase II observation plans are for FGS observations of 5 nearby M dwarf eclipsing binaries (EBs). We attempted to collect between 5 and 10 reference stars per observation epoch for each of the 5 EBs, with V<15 (and V<13 or 14 for best performance in terms of observing time and astrometric error). Given the constraints on spacecraft ORIENT angle due to two-gyro mode, we were unable in certain cases to constrain the same set of reference stars for each EB at each observing epoch. For those instances, we attempted to have at least 2 or 3 of the ensemble of reference stars be common to all observation epochs; this was successful, but for a few of the proposed observing epochs, the contraints (date, ORIENT angle) are quite tight (1 or 2 available days, 0.5 degrees of available ORIENT range). Exposure time and spacecraft overheads were all taken from the FGS Instrument Handbook. This observation planning is consistent with the technique described in Benedict et al. (2007). (2007). We attempted to have a reasonable ensemble of astrometric references, along with a few quite bright nearby stars (V<12) for characterization of spacecraft drift during an orbit.
