Welty Space Telescope Science Institute N ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Abstract As described in HSTAR 12579, on December 12, 2010 (10/346) at 16:15:13 UT, the HITM1 Pt-Cr/Ne lamp had a delayed turn-on during the execution of the target acquisition macro OFINDSLT. This is a known problem that was investigated in 2004 by an Anomaly Review Board. Since the re-commissioning of STIS after SM4, several FSW modifications, as recommended by the ARB, have been installed to mitigate the impacts of late lamp turn-ons, but these mitigations may become ineffective if the delay increases and provide no quick turn-around in the event of a complete failure of the HITM1lamp. This proposal will collected the data for determination of any differences, if they exist, between the OFINDSLT centroiding algorithm results used in the calculation of the final centering target acquisition slew, from the HITM1 and HITM2 lamps. If differences are detected, OFINDSLT FSW patchable constant updates will be calculated and held in-the-ready if a switch is made to the HITM2 lamp. Other OFINDSLT patchable constants will be examined for inaccuracies and adjusted if necessary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ This proposal will collect the engineering and science data for determination of any differences, if they exist, between the OFINDSLT centroiding algorithm results used in the calculation of the final target acquisition centering slew between the HITM1 and HITM2 lamps.
