In Cycle 19 the same field have been used to look for time dependency of UVIS and IR geometric distortion and the effect of the scale change due to the thermal breathing. The results of the stability WFC3 geometric distortion monitoring have show that the WFC3 geometric distortion appears to be stable and there is no evidence of a secular changes on the two-and-half |*| years time scale. However, during each interval of the orbital target visibility, there is a linear trend of the UVIS and IR X & Y axes skew at the level of +/-2 and +/-7 mas, respectively (Kozhurina-Platais et.al 2012, WFC3-ISR-2012-03). Thus, the observations of Omega Cen through UVIS F606W filter and F160W IR filter will be continue to monitor the skew and scale terms in the geometric distortion and look for any secular changes over time and/or during the orbital time of target visibility in Cycle 20. Additional to the WFC3 geometric distortion time dependency calibration, Omega Cen will be observed through uncalibrated F621M filter. F621M filter is one of the best available filter for high precision astrometry due to its small wave front errors, negligible fringing, and narrower wavelength range to suppress color dependence. This filter will be used for astrometric spatial scanning program in Cycle 20. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ Three orbits are allocated to calibration of an additional un-calibrated filter F621M. The exposures in F621M filter will be taken with F606W filter to be used as a standard frame to calibrate F621M filter. First orbit with three exposures in F621M and three exposures in F606W filter will be taken with POSTARG 0:0, -40:40 and 40:-40 in around December 2012. Second orbit with the same set of exposures of ~45 degree rotation w.r.t to the firts orbits will be taken in around February-March. Similarly to second orbit, the same set of exposures of ~45 degree w.r.t to the second orbits will be taken in around of May. The observation of Omega Cen through F606W and F160W as a standard filters in UVIS and IR will be observed with the same pointing but with different roll-angle of the OTA in around March 2012. The set of 3 exposures in F606W and 3 exposures in F160W filters are sampled in the allowed full range of 13100( 10) - 04-Feb-2013 12:03:07 - [ 2] roll-angles at the ecliptic latitude of Omega Cen, and ranged approximately from 300 to 360 degree. Three UVIS exposures in 1 orbit will be observed in the following sequence of off-nominal (~360 degree) roll-angles: Orbit #1 - 0, -15, +15 degree. Three IR exposures in 1 orbit will be observed in the following sequence of off-nominal (~360 degree) roll-angles: Orbit #2 - 0, -10, +15 degree. In order to improve the schedule, a small range of roll is allowed at each specific roll angle. The order of the exposures in each orbit is specified by a SEQUENTIAL Special Requirement and the order of the orbits is specified by AFTER Special Requirements. To maintain accurate pointing control, 2-guide star acquisitions are used. If suitable guide stars can be found, the same pair of guide stars are used for all 6 exposures. Real Time Justification ----------------------- Not applicable Calibration Justification ------------------------- The observation of Omega Cen through F606W and F160W as a standard filters in UVIS and IR will be observed with the same pointing but with different roll-angle of the OTA in around March 2013. The set of 6 exposures in F606W and F160W filters are sampled in the allowed full range of roll-angles at the ecliptic latitude of Omega Cen, and ranged approximately from 300 to 360 degree. Three UVIS exposures in 1 orbit will be observed in the following sequence of off-nominal (~360 degree) roll-angles: Orbit #1 - 0, -15, +15 degree. Three IR exposures in 1 orbit will be observed in the following sequence of off-nominal (~360 degree) roll-angles: Orbit #2 - 0, -15, +15 degree. In order to improve the schedule, a small range of roll is allowed at each specific roll angle. The order of the exposures in each orbit is specified by a SEQUENTIAL Special Requirement and the order of the orbits is specified by AFTER Special Requirements. Omega Cen will be also observed through F621M filter at 3 dithers, 700 seconds each concurrent with the F606W geometric distortion monitor to get the needed geometric distortion calibration to the additional calibrated UVIS filters. Additional Comments ------------------- Three orbits are allocated for an additional un-calibaretd filter F621M filter. Three exposures in F621M filter are tited with F606W filter, which will be used as standard frame to calibrate F621M with different postarg and orientation. Additional 2 orbits are allocated to monitor the stability of WFC3 geometric distorion. The 3 exposures in UVIS with steps of roll-angles +/-15 degree of off-nominal roll-angles required 3 orbits, the same 3 exposures in IR with the steps of roll-angles +/-15 degree of nominal roll-angles, also required 3 orbits. However, APT requires each Visit to begin at the start of an orbit and therefore calculates that this proposal requires 6 orbits, which APT indicates is mostly unused. Accordingly, APT generates a Warning that the Visits will not fit within the required 5 orbits and 7 Warnings that the SEQUENTIAL sets cannot fit within one orbit. However, based upon known overheads for the moderate roll-slews used and overheads for full guide star acquisitions, these indicated 13100( 10) - 04-Feb-2013 12:03:07 - [ 3] VISITS (4, 5, 6 with UVIS and 7, 8, 9 with IR) should be be schedule in 2 orbits.
