This is being done to understand whether observed changes in the Side 2 CSM resolver telemetry are indicative of mechanical motion within the resolver only or if this indicates actual motion of the CSM mirror. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ This proposal serves to investigate whether observed changes in the Side 2 CSM resolver telemetry are indicative of motion within the resolver itself or if it indicates true motion of the CSM mirror. Two different observations are performed. The first (TypeA), consists of the following sequence: 1) IR earth flat 2) Three 0.5s UVIS subarrays 3) Three 1.0s UVIS subarrays 4) IR earth flat The second (TypeB) consists of the following sequence: 1) IR earth flat 2) 12 moves of the UVIS shutter (2.0s "exposure" times) 3) Three 0.5s UVIS subarrays 4) 12 moves of the UVIS shutter (2.0s "exposure" times) 5) IR earth flat Each of these tests will be performed three times for a total of six visits. The six new visits will be done in three different ways, each repeated twice. TypeC: 1) IR earth flat 2) A series of 90-degree UVIS Shutter moves in an Open, then Close fashion similar to a real exposure. The "exposure" times will range from 4-12 seconds with a 20 second delay between each iteration. 3) IR earth flat Type D: 1) IR earth flat 2) UVIS subarray exposures through F606W with 0.7s, 1.0s, 1.5s, 2.0s, 2.5s and 3.0s exposures 3) IR earth flat Type E: 1) IR earth flat 2) Same as the Type D exposures, except the SOFA will be changed between each exposure. The shutter open times increase from 4 to 12 sec, and the closed times are all 20 sec. Finally, another IR earth flat is taken. Ground and on-orbit testing have shown that shutter-induced jitter takes about 10 seconds to dampen out. Ramping the "exposure" times up from 4 to 12 seconds allows the shutter to be moved at different points in the dampening-out process. The 20 second wait between open/close cycles is to allow a couple telemetry samples to update for each set of moves, as well as to provide sufficient time to allow any motion to fully dampen out. Note that the EISHUTTER instruction has a minimum duration of 4 seconds.
