Minutes of the SHARE meeting on 10/10/01 Mark Dickinson, Megan Donahue, Tony Keyes, Bill Sparks, Anton Koekemoer, Paolo Padovani, Dorothy Fraquelli, Gerhard Meurer & Jerry Kriss 1. Daryl and Howard mentioned via email that SHARE was not discussed much at ADASS meeting. Not yet known outside STScI. 2. Thanks to Anton for volunteering to do the STUC presentation, if he is free. Again, that will be on Oct. 25 or 26. 3. Discussion of how to incorporate instrument teams' pipeline planning into our process. Jerry: Many instrument team members specifically selected to be SHARE study members. Mark: We need to develop an implementation plan. Anton: Testing will be an important part of the process, natural to involve the instrument teams. Action ==> instrument team members should review current list of SHARE recommendations with their teams. Two questions: * Which items directly impact your instrument and are part of your current development plans? * Anything in your development plans that you think the SHARE study should be aware of? 4. Discussion of how to establish a forum for on-going evaluation and prioritization of pipeline enhancements in a cross-instrument fashion that is well coordinated. - Current STScI "Pipeline" meetings are too detailed and technical to accommodate this topic - Perhaps the back-end equivalent of the Integrated Schedule? Again, perhaps too technical and focussed. - Perhaps recommend a science discussion and prioritization that occurs at the beginning of the planning cycle for each phase of the Integrated Schedule development. This would be "sowing seeds" (Bill and Mark) to give inputs to the instrument teams for development ideas. Then need management leadership to allocate the appropriate resources. 5. Using the SDSS resource - value as an astrometric reference to update WCS headers (Mark) - Need to investigate what astrometric grid system SDSS is tied in to - Tie image/aperture centers in to SDSS mesh to speed up all-sky searches (Megan) - use its photometry (and the SDSS conventions) to characterize the completeness of generated catalogues (Anton) - borrow/use SDSS concepts for catalogue generation We'll meet again next Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 9 am in the CafeCon to discuss assignments for studying resource allocations and timescales for development.
