SHARE Meeting Minutes						10/17/01

Present: Bill Sparks, Howard Bushouse, Paolo Padovani, Mark Dickinson,
	Tony Keyes, Anton Koekemoer, Jerry Kriss, Gerhardt Meurer

1. Overall plan for remainder of SHARE project:

	* Use now through November to develop resource estimates.
	  Discuss at a meeting on Nov. 28.

	* In December, use these results to reasses priorites and develop
	  the implementation roadmap.

	* Final report to Rodger targetted for completion by Dec. 31.

2. To develop resource and timescale estimates

	* Develop a strawman implementation plan.
	* Set min and max goals for each topic
	* Contact knowledgeable people in other instrument groups and divisions
	  as needed to get required resources and timescales

3. Question: what resources and timescales are we talking about?
   a) The people and time required to develop a solution and implement it, or
   b) the computing power and resources required to implement it?

	==>  Our primary charter is to look at (a).  If (b) looks like it
	     might have a big impact (e.g., we need to reprocess the whole HST
	     archive to rebuild the catalogue in a useful way), then, yes, we
	     should point that out.

4. Lot of discussion over ways to do the WCS improvement, whether we should
   plan for nice GUIs, or just processes and s/w in our estimates.
   General feeling re catalogues that it is more important for STScI to
   develop standards rather than yet another s/w implementation of an
   object cataloguing tool.
