The 1997 HST Calibration Workshop

with a New Generation of Instruments

September 22-24, 1997

Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, Maryland

*NEW* Proceedings are now available online

The Second Servicing Mission brought about major changes for the HST as the new Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) and Near-Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS) replace the Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS) and Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph (GHRS), and the Fine Guidance Sensors were upgraded. The Third HST Calibration Workshop will capture the impact of these changes and explore the new capabilities that they bring to the HST user community.

This meeting provides a forum to wrap up outstanding calibration issues for the FOS and GHRS as they enter their archival phase. It is also an opportunity to present major results from the new instruments during the Servicing Mission Observatory Verification (SMOV) phase, providing the first performance measurements. New calibrations and observing and data reduction techniques will be presented for the continuing instruments: the Faint Object Camera (FOC) and Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2).

The workshop will be held over three full days at STScI, and will include invited talks, contributed posters, and splinter sessions for more detailed technical discussions. Proceedings of the workshop will be published before the end of 1997.
