Here is the text of a notice about classmate Phillip Clarke, taken from http://www.class.csupomona.edu/mu/Clarkeannouncement.html (where you can find a picture and further information): Dr. Phillip Clarke, longtime head of piano studies at the Cal Poly Pomona Music Department, passed away at his home on Saturday, Oct. 16. Dr. Clarke shared his talents and wisdom for 22 years in the Music Department. During that time, he taught, performed, and organized events in the piano area of the department. His work with the Duo Concertante, a violin/piano duo with Donald Ambroson, resulted in more than 200 performances. They explored literatures of women composers, world music, folk styles, as well as the body of work from the last four hundred years in Western Europe. Their work resulted in an endowed scholarship for the Music Department. Perhaps the side of Dr. Clarke that we will miss most will be his fascination for the minutiae of our world (both musical and otherwise), and his encyclopedic knowledge and zest for sharing that knowledge. Dr. Clarke extended a unique acceptance to the people and to the events in his world. We were privileged to be part of that. A memorial service will take place Saturday, October 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N Garey Ave, Pomona, CA (the Claremont address was erroneous). In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to the Phillip Clarke Memorial Piano Scholarship. Please contact: Dr. Iris Levine Music Department, Cal Poly Pomona 3801 W.
