Painting and Assembly (Part 3) Right, time to finish it all off. After a bit of experimenting, I found the best way to line the holes with rubber tubing was as follows:
This was all going well until I came to the end of the tube of superglue. Of course, as it always goes, I squeezed too hard to get the remainder out and it ended up everywhere. I removed as much as possible with a paper towel and then applied the superglue remover. I tried a small bit at first and it seemed to work. So I covered the rest of the affected area and left it over night as instructed. The next morning I washed off the superglue remover with some soapy water and....
The superglue remover reacted with the soap and turned white... and it doesn't come off. More than that it seems to have removed some of the acrylic surface - there's a noticeable dent were the remover was. So that's it - it's ruined. I'll have to make another faceplate but KustomPCs are currently out of stock of the plastic and they don't know when they'll get more. So this project is going on another hiatus... However when I do get more plastic, I'm going to take it home and use my dad's pillar drill to cut the button holes properly. So it won't take long to make and it will look a lot better. I'll also see if I can source some proper rubber grommets to line the holes, as I do like the rubber lining - but it does look a tad unprofessional...
