PMSU1 - Table 5: Kinematics


Proper motions, radial velocities and space motions for pCNS3 late-K and M dwarfs. Astrometric data are primarily from the pCNS3, supplemented by more recent observations where possible; radial velocities are mainly from PMSU1, again updated to include more recently obtained higher-accuracy data (notably from PMSU3). The references are as follows:
1. from PMSU1 (1018 stars)
2. from Delfosse, Forveille, Perrier & Mayor, 1998, A&A, 331, 581 (3 stars)
3. from Tinney & Reid, 1998, MNRAS (11 stars)
4. from PMSU3 (Gizis et al, 2002) (652 stars)
There are 93stars in common between PMSU3 and Delfosse et al: a comparison gives a mean difference of 0.04 km/sec, with an rms of 2.12 km/sec; excluding 5 discrepant points (4 are known binaries) gives a mean difference (PMSU3-Delfosse et al) of 0.12 km/sec, rms 1.08 km/sec.
The (U, V, W) space motions are in the same sense as the pCNS3: U is positive towards the Galactic centre; V is positive in the direction of rotation; and W is directed perpendicular to the Plane, positive towards the North Galactic Pole.
