Final Announcement

Dear Registered Participants,

We now have a full house and have therefore closed the registration for the Postdoc Symposium taking place in Santa Cruz in two weeks. As expected, the response has been great and this is setting up to be a wonderful meeting, hopefully the first of many to come.

You guys should all have made your flight/hotel reservations by now. If not, please do so asap as the availability of decent priced hotels can run out quickly in the summer months. Most of the participants are staying at the Mission Inn, which is easy to find on Highway 1 (also called Mission Street). Directions to this and other hotels are provided on the conference web page...feel free to email any questions that you may have.

We are planning to have an informal get together on Wednesday night (Aug. 20th) when most of you have arrived. We will announce the time and location for this closer to your arrival date. The likely venue will be a lounge/restaurant so dinner and drinks will be available. We expect everyone to arrive in the ISB building on campus, room 102, at 8:30 am for our welcome introduction. Directions to the campus and parking are also provided on the conference web site. If you drive, you can purchase a parking pass at the base of campus. However, the metro service in Santa Cruz is excellent with almost all buses coming up to campus so we encourage you to go green. The fare is $1.50 and the stop closest to ISB is called "Science Hill".

Some of the speakers have raised questions regarding their talks. If anyone else has specific questions, please let us know. The audience will consist of grads/postdocs/faculty and so the talks should ideally begin by presenting a sufficient review of your respective field. That said, everyone will be looking forward to hearing new results and explaining outstanding issues that can be addressed. You have the freedom to weigh how much time you want to devote to these various sub-topics. Please plan your talks for about 25-30 minutes to allow 5-10 minutes of discussion. If you already haven't done so, please also send us an abstract on your talk so we can advertise appropriately within the department.

Some of the poster presenters have raised questions regarding the size of the posters...the poster boards will be very large accommodating posters with sizes up to 48 inches (height) and 45 inches (width). The poster viewing will be held outside of the ISB building, provided the weather is nice (which it always is).

We are all looking forward to seeing you! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
